AFL and NRL clubs have announced they will be making the move from the Melbourne Football Club’s ground to a new site in Brisbane’s CBD.
The Melbourne Football club has played at the former Melbourne City Football ground for more than three decades, and the city of Brisbane has announced plans to redevelop the ground into a new ground.
The Brisbane Lions announced on Thursday they will move to the new ground in Brisbane.
The announcement comes after the NRL’s decision to pull the plug on the 2018-19 season, which had been scheduled to start on April 15.
The NRL is not commenting on whether the decision to end the season would be reconsidered in the future.
The AFL and NRL have been embroiled in an escalating dispute over player welfare since last year.
The players union says it will not take part in the process and that the game is run by a group of clubs that are not aligned with its position.
The decision to relocate the two sports to the CBD comes at a time when the AFL is seeking to sell the game to the highest bidder.
